Green Office Furniture - A New Approach Towards A Greener Planet

By Tammy Harris

With more pollution in the environment and rapid deforestation, people have awakened to the critical scenario and are turning towards conserving nature. Using green office furniture is one of the latest measures in this respect and it can go a long way in building an eco friendly business.

One way of lightening the weight on the environment is to opt for modular offices. Such an office requires a lot less material and hence helps protect trees. Modular offices save not only the trees but also the funds that a company has to invest for a new office. It's lesser expensive to make modular offices, and being small in size, they also mean lower rent for the company.

An office that uses reusable or used furniture makes an excellent contribution towards environmental conservation. This kind of furniture generally requires only small alterations and fits the needs of most offices perfectly. The economic recession has resulted in a lot of companies going out of work, and they are now selling off their furniture at surprisingly low prices, and this opportunity can be grabbed by businesses planning to build a new office. Using such furniture protects trees from being cut down and mines from being drilled to build new furniture.

Even entirely new furniture can be green furniture if certain considerations are kept in mind. The new furniture must be made of recyclable materials and must be of local make so that the transportation does not produce serious emissions from vehicles.

Never buy furniture with foams whose production has released poisonous chemicals like CFCs into the air, which are notorious for depleting the ozone layer. The wood for the furniture should have come from trees, which can be re-sown and grown quickly, hence curtailing the damage to the jungles. Finally, buying more furniture than you need must be avoided and you must be frugal in your use of resources.
