What Makes Flowers Appealing

By Myra Webb

Long before the use of jewellery, women wore flowers to beautify themselves. Colourful and perfumed flowers have been fulfilling the objective of beautifying people for thousands of years. In most ancient civilizations, wearing flowers in the hair or on other body parts was considered a critical aspect of beautification, and even males were known to do this.

There are as many kinds of floral scents in nature as there are flowers. Colour, shape and scent are the three qualities that have determined the different moods that different flowers generate in humans, and this in turn has determined which flower would suit which occasion. Perfume makers have taken out different floral scents and have sealed them in bottles for centuries, and the astounding diversity of these fragrances available in nature has aided them to manufacture an endless variety of perfumes. However, now the demand for flowers in the perfume industry is somewhat falling as artificial compounds have started replacing them.

The fragrance of flowers is significant not just because they can be trapped in perfume bottles. Flowers have always held a proud place as favoured gift items in many cultures because of their attractiveness and pleasant fragrances. Scent of flowers can rouse the drooping spirits of an individual and completely transform the whole environment of a place. Bouquets that arouse feelings of joy and delight in recipients' hearts are those that properly balance looks and scent. Moreover, hardly any traditional ceremony is held without abundant use of flowers, whose scent fills the air and lingers in the whole venue.

However, horticulturists have always given lasting beauty of flowers precedence over their fragrance, and this prejudice in selection is now starting to show results. With the arrival of genetic engineering in biology, this pursuit has been given further impetus. For example, several varieties of carnations and roses now exhibit flawless appearance and long lasting freshness, but their famous fragrances have faded significantly.

Hence, these days you have to carefully check the fragrance of flowers before purchasing them. Whether you are having bouquets made or purchasing flowers in large volumes for a wedding or any other ceremony, it is critical that you take the advice of an experienced and popular florist in the market.

The internet is the best place to search for a good florist in Singapore, or you may ask people about who has a good reputation in the flower-selling market. A florist with a popular brand name attached to the shop can also be a good bet. The large organizations are generally quite aware about their standards and you can be certain of a good service as well from them.
